Maria Sakkari will face Amanda Anisimova in her opening match in Madrid, who will face Naomi Osaka in the round of 16. See the Madrid Open draw in detail.
The top Greek tennis player is ranked No. 16 in the rankings and that helped her avoid seeded players in the first two rounds of the Madrid 1000, but that doesn’t mean she will have easy matches at the Caja Magica.
She will face the talented and very strong Amanda Anisimova in Round 1, and if she wins, she will play either Anett Kontaveit or a qualifier (or lucky loser) in Round 2.
If she clears the first two hurdles, it’s possible for Maria to get Naomi Osaka, No.2 on the rankings, in the 3rd round, while she’ll face Czech Karolina Pliskova in the quarter-finals and Simona Halep and Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals.
On the other side of the bracket are Ashleigh Barty and Elina Svitolina, No.1 and No.4 in the draw respectively. Barty crosses paths with Kiki Bertens and Petra Kvitova in the quarter-finals, but is likely to face Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek earlier in the third round. Svitolina will cross paths with Belinda Bencic and Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-finals.
Possible 3rd round pairings (based on seedings):
 Barty – Swiatek
 Kvitova – Bertens
 Svitolina – Konta
 Muguruza – Bencic
 Sabalenka – Azarenka
 Mertens – Halep
 Pliskova – Brady
 Sakkari – Osaka
