In two sets. Aryna Sabalenka will face world number one Ashleigh Barty in the final.
The formidable tournament in Madrid continues for Aryna Sabalenka, who had another stunning match today at the Manolo Santana Stadium in Caja Magica to defeat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 6-3.
It took just 63 minutes for the Belarusian, who missed just 3 points from the service line in the entire 1st set, breaking in the 4th (3-1) and 8th game (6-2).
She continued to dominate the 2nd set and led 5-0, winning 11 of the first 13 games of the match. Pavlyuchenkova managed to fight back and take 3 games in a row, reducing the score to 5-3, but the second time Sabalenka served for the win, she left her no room and closed out the match.
In Saturday’s final, Sabalenka will face world No.1 Ashleigh Barty, who earlier defeated Paula Badosa, 6-4, 6-3, in the first semifinal.
Barty didn’t encounter much difficulty today either, beating the young Spaniard in just 75 minutes. The 1st set was quite close but the Australian didn’t face any break point and broke in the 10th game, and minutes later she led 4-1 in the 2nd set and never lost control.
It will be the 8th time Barty and Sabalenka will meet, in a rivalry with quite a lot of interest, in which Barty leads with 4-3 wins. Both of their most recent matches, which were in Miami and Stuttgart this year, both came down to Barty, but it took three sets to complete.
