Maria Sakkari got off to a good start on clay

Playing a generally good match in her debut in Stuttgart and in the clay season, Maria Sakkari defeated Andrea Petkovic 6-2, 6-2 in just 66 minutes to secure a ticket to the round of 16 of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

This was Sakkari’s first match in Stuttgart, making a very good debut at the 500 in Germany.

Although she lost her serve twice, it was generally a good match for Maria from the service line, and she dominated the reception, taking advantage of 6 of the 8 break points she had in total in the match.

Maria finished her very good match with 24 winners and 17 unforced errors. Petkovic had the same number of errors as the Greek (17), but was only able to get 7 winners.

In the second round of the very strong Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Sakkari will face either last year’s champion and No.7 seed Petra Kvitova or Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady.
