Good start for Kokkinakis in Acapulco

Thanasis Kokkinakis combined his premiere at the Abierto Mexicano in Acapulco with a good performance, who lost just 4 games to Henri Laaksonen and took the first step to enter the main board of the tournament.

After 1 hour and 21 minutes of play, the 24-year-old Greek-Australian prevailed over the Swiss, who is No. 8 on the board and No. 134 in the ATP world rankings, 6-1, 6-3.

Kokkinakis did not endanger from the service line in the 1st set and “broke” 3 times in a row the service of his opponent, to win 6 consecutive games from 0-1 and to reach his conquest in a flash.

In the 2nd set, the Greek-Australian had to return from 0-40 to his serve in the 1st game and later to delete another break point, to make it 2-1. But he made another first break after that to reach 3-1.

Laaksonen continued to threaten, but Kokkinakis continued to find good service in the most difficult moments, to overturn another game from 0-40 and reach 4-1. After saving 7/7 break points and taking this very good lead, the 24-year-old was not threatened again and in the 9th game he finished the game, successfully serving for 6-3.

With his very good victory, Kokkinakis qualified for the 2nd qualifying round of Abierto Mexicano, where he will face tonight, 2 hours after midnight Greek time, the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor.
